fabulous friday // school and all that jazz (a crazy ramble) !!

(I added two exclamation marks because I am really happy about it.)

At least this week I can set down my proof for why life has been crazy: We started school.

Like, you have no idea how much self control it took to just add a period.

Trust me, it's straining. Ugh, I just can't take it.

WE STARTED SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!

YAY

So, I have a lot of thoughts of school. Coming off summer (or really any random moment in all of time except when I am working on a writing assignment,) those thought are mostly just excited little emojis. (Blogger does not support emojis or I would fill a blog post with them. Probably.) So like this week I didn't get a blog post down (surprise, surprise) so this will be a lot of random stuff. mostly about school. Mostly rambling and ending on not school.

Also tonight is our family game night... We may or may not be watching Casablanca. Again. Like, just like we did last week. ^-^

I know that most teenagers my age are rather down on school. Honestly, I used to be such a bad conversationalist that I would quickly agree with any friend who stated that opinion. I was such a good actress that I convinced them. (which wasn't hard.) As I've gotten older I've really come to terms with being my own person, having my own opinions. I'm not a nerd. Honest to goodness, I'm not. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy learning.

I guess it's that I look forward to it so much that in a way it's hard for me to understand how someone could not enjoy it. I get so excited opening my history book every day.

So maybe I'm quirky, but not a nerd. If you had my history book, you might agree.

Where did we reach the point where it's okay for teenagers to hate school so much?? And what's so bad about it?? Bullying? Boring teachers? Short attention spans? Not enough emotional support? Too much peer pressure?

Probably a little bit of all of those things, but I think that this generation has lost a few valuable things. Like, the respect of adults. Or, the love of learning. Or even, the ability to have any stamina for something we don't want to do. (Myself included.)

I mean, don't look at me, I'm no saint, but it does make me sad that kids are so attached to their phones. I mean, really. Everyone is so connected they lose their connection.

Also, I hate peer pressure. I wish I could say I'm past it, but it's not true. Lately I've been thinking a lot about it, like, dude, why should I care about the look a stranger gives me?? YOU HAVE NO INFLUENCE OVER MY LIFE, I want to scream at them, but really they do. So I'm working on ridding myself of that influence. Not because other people don't matter, because they do, but there's more to life than them... I think it's something we work on all our life.

I guess that thought was sparked by something I saw on pinterest (I'm sure I'm misquoting this,) "I'm confident not because I'm sure they'll like me, but because my identity doesn't depend upon it."

Also I've been thinking about what makes people go on with their lives... like, when you have a set back, a really devastating blow, who or what gets you up in the morning? What gives your life purpose and meaning again? Also, I'm thanking my God every day that he gave me a belief in Him.

One last fun note (that is not at all about school:) Did you know that when you make yourself bigger, you feel more confident? hashtag fun rhett&link fact.

Tell me something you like/d or didn't/don't like about school in the comments. I really want to hear.

  1. This isn't the same for everyone. But personally, I think, schools holds you (broad you, as in people, not YOU) back. Forces you to learn the same as everyone else. I love learning, like LOVE it! But school made me not want to bother. So personally, I prefer homeschooling but even though I don't like "school" I do like education :) great, thoughtful post!

    1. definitely one of my favorite things about homeschooling. Though I do believe there should be some structure, there seems to be too much in our public school system. Early on, I am a firm believer in getting kids interested in learning. and then I think the rest follows (relatively) easily.

Did you go to public school or where you homeschooled? (or private? :))

    2. Now that I think about it, how common is homeschooling over there?
