4/52 (part two) - January 24th : The Great Outdoors!

Winter has been horrible for me as far as photography goes. I have been in a horrible rut. I'm trying to just push through it, but that's really hard, and I keep capturing these almost okay photos and it's making me pretty discouraged. I'm ready for summer. Like, super ready.

Anyway, I think I'd like to join a photography group, or get daily prompts or something. I could really use some inspiration & encouragement. Winter is HARD.

Please please share with me your tips on getting through winter and still managing to stick with photography!!

(also, I'm switching my post schedule...Now each post will come out at 9:00 AM each day instead of noon.)

Happy Blogging!

  2. Hi Lottie! I found your blog through the Project 52 link up on Click It Up A Notch. I love your photography! I hear you about the winter blues... and I am a die hard SNOW and WINTER LOVER. I'd happily just sit on the couch under a blanket and read all day. But my 2 sons (I realize you are much younger than me), are very active and being couped up all day really doesn't sit well with them. So this year I, like you, have made a point to go outside everyday for a little bit regardless of weather and that has really helped everyone's mood. As far as photography goes, I like to think of winter as a constraint (light-wise) that forces me to be more creative with available light that I might normally pass over. Even if it's just my overhead kitchen lights or something like that. It's hard, and a lot of the times not as good as I want it to be, but it helps me try new things. I actually end up shooting a lot at night when you can get good contrast and shadows between the darkness of a room and a single light. Plus then when the longer days come back I appreciate them so much more. Anyway, I just wanted to actually drop a comment instead of just reading and clicking away to the next thing. Looking forward to more of your work in the coming year!

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! That is very sweet of you! I really can't tell you how encouraging that is! You make winter to be such a nice thing!! :D I'm totally going to go try to get out tomorrow and get something from the light. It was very pretty today, I will give it that. The dead stuff everywhere just makes me so sad. I miss all the green!!
